Epic Universe: Isle of Berk Announcements

On March 28th, Universal Orlando Resort gave us more information on a piece of Epic Universe. We now have new information on How to Train Your Dragon - Isle of Berk.

Note: For the most up to date information, please visit the Universal Orlando Resort website. Any opinions will be clearly noted as such, and all factual information was obtained directly from Universal Orlando Resort's official announcement.

What do we know?

This area will take you straight into the Isle of Berk, complete with character meet and greets with Toothless, Hiccup, and other friends you'll recognize from the series. There are three confirmed rides, one stage show, one walk-through attraction, and one dining area.

The first ride, Hiccup's Wing Gliders, is a roller coaster! From the pictures, the coaster looks to be a lower thrill level, similar to Flight of the Hippogriff, but still longer than that coaster. We'll have to see it in person to confirm though, as right now we only have the concept art and drone footage captured by amateur videographers. Opinion: I'm so thankful Universal is adding more small to medium sized coasters to the parks. Some people (like me) really wish they could ride Velocicoaster, but the bigger coasters can be intimidating! Next, we have Dragon Racer's Rally. This looks to be a combination of two frequently recognized fair rides, the hang glider ride and the swinging pendulum ride. Lastly, we will have Fyre Drill, which will be a water ride (the first confirmed for Epic Universe)! Here you'll fight the opposing side of your ship using water guns, shooting at targets and other ships. It's unclear if the ride will be a you'll-definitely-get-soaked-ride like Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls, or a you-might-be-dry-or-you-might-be-soaked like Jurassic Park River Adventure. Opinion: I hope it's more similar to Jurassic Park River Adventure. I don't mind getting a little wet, it is a water ride after all! But I don't like walking around soaked all day.

There is one walk-through attraction, the Viking Training Camp. This looks similar to Camp Jurassic in Jurassic Park. There will be one stage show, titled The Untrainable Dragon. If you are curious what this show may look like, check YouTube! A version of this show has been running at Universal Studios Beijing since 2022. Opinion: I'm excited to have more areas for younger kids at Epic universe. I think a rest and play space similar to Camp Jurassic will be perfect, especially considering how large this park seems to be.

The Mead Hall will be the restaurant located in Isle of Berk. While we don't have an official menu yet, the current description of the restaurant states it will serve "meat, fish, sandwiches, and desserts." Opinions: I'm so so so excited for this! In my first Epic Universe Announcements post, one of the biggest things I was hoping for was a recreation of the dining hall from the movies. Universal Creative, if you're reading my blog, why aren't you subscribed?

My Questions

  • Will Universal be testing menus soon for the Mead Hall, or has the final menu already been decided?

  • Will all the attractions in Isle of Berk be open and operational on opening day?

  • What will the height requirements be for the attractions?
